Obituary for Wesley Birl Buffaloe

Wesley Birl Buffaloe, 69, of Greensboro, NC died on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Asheville, NC. Born on July 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Joseph Birl Buffaloe and the late Arleathe May Livengood Buffaloe. He was a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School, where he was a member of the varsity wrestling team, then graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Education in 1971. That year, he began his career as a History teacher at Kiser Jr. High School. He later changed careers and worked in Sales with Philip Morris International for 14 years. He always had a passion for finance and stocks and finished his professional career with Wachovia/Wells Fargo Securities in 2010.
He married Annella Sorensen in 1983, where they lived in Florence, SC, and she predeceased him in 2004. After returning to the Greensboro area, he married Martha Anne Garrison in 2013. Mr. Buffaloe is survived by his wife, Martha Anne Buffaloe; his two children Wesley “Lee” Birl Buffaloe, Jr. (Tracie) of Wilmington, NC and Amanda Buffaloe Wrigley (Ben) of Frisco, Texas; and his grandchildren Benham Robert Wrigley IV and Madeline Kay Wrigley. He is also survived by his stepchildren and their families: Kim Taylor (Mike), Chris Sorensen (Denise), David Garrison (Melissa) and Travis Garrison (Jessica), and grandchildren Mikey, Amanda, Carley, Mackenzie, Darden, and Pippa, and great grandchild Abigale. Mr. Buffaloe was active in the Greensboro Jaycees and the Old Timers Group where he served as President. Proud accomplishments included running the Jaycees’ Soap Box Derby and the Greater Greensboro Open (GGO). He loved traveling and attending Appalachian football games, including one of his most favorite memories of watching them beat the University of Michigan on the “Buffaloe Boys” road trip to Ann Arbor. He will best be remembered for his witty jokes, outgoing personality and genuine love of people. Someone who “never met a stranger”, he was everyone’s friend.
