Johnny and I were best friends from the day we met at Jackson. We lived in the same neighborhood and were "the new kids" in school. He nicknamed me Pooh and called me that for the rest of his life. My family loved him...so much so that he went on a few of my family vacations.
He was funny, sweet and loyal to a fault.
In 1999, I moved from Greensboro to Fayetteville to work with him. I learned so much from Johnny and have never loved a job more...helping the homeless population. If it hadn't been for him, I would have never known the joy of seeing men who were lost to addiction become men with a purpose again. He also taught me how to deal with the loss of the ones who didn't make it.
We were the closest of friends until the day he died and I miss him dearly.
